Paddington central - masterplan

Architectural possibilities

Transforming storage facility

2030 vast urban population growth has taken shopping experience to a new level, where people no longer require shopping centres as we know now. Each household is now equiped with a digital device that allowes one to make a virtual order and have the product delivered to their home.

Architectural possibility: Fully mechanically operated storage facility with a wide spread of an underground delivery infrastructure. The surface structure also acts as a Paddington site attraction as it adds the performance element to the site.

3D body scanner the shape of things to come?

After last week technology our group started looking at a proposed futuristic Paddington Shopping centre as a container of products which may be purchased throughout the touch screens installed all around the proposed hub. The interesting aspect of this idea for me was the way we decided to portray new shopping experiences. Instead of going through hours of daunting experiences of trying on clothes we thought of the new software which allows a 4 dimensional scanning and then replication of the clothing item you’ve picked.

First steps to a new proposed Idea are already being taken by Target Corporation as it is explained in "Sizing up Australia: is Target's 3D body scanner the shape of things to come?" (2012) article by Kate Kennedy from RMIT University.
"In a process that takes around a minute, and can be done fully clothed, the AlvaScan scanning booth collects data from 200,000 points on the customer's body, determining size and shape, and creating a 3D image of the subject's body. The incentive for consumers is obvious; in return for their time, they will get a print-out of their exact body measurements, making it easier to buy clothes in future." This shows that the steps towards the shopping using 4 Dimensional scanning technology are already being taken.
